August 2008 Monthly Horoscope Forecast

As you enter the month of August the cosmos is highly charged with eclipse energy. Your horoscope has been expanded with information pertaining to this month’s eclipses and previous Leo/Aquarius eclipses to your solar chart.
You’ll also find dates when the atmosphere will be ripe for developments related to this eclipse. Please read your rising sign for a comprehensive outlook on this month’s eclipse activity; you will need your birth time. The information for all signs has been repeated in each horoscope, so once you read it you can scroll through it in the next forecast.
August 1 – August 22, the Sun transits your 12th house.
Venus transits this sector through August 5 and Mercury hangs around until Aug 10. This is the best time of year for you to look at your life and see what has worked for you and let go of the things that block your progress. This would include relationships that are stagnant, habits that need to be broken, methods that need re-evaluated, or areas of your life which would benefit from counseling.
If you feel tired, this is common as the 12th house is the place where we go for rest and renewal…physical, psychological, and spiritual. Soon, the Sun will return to your sign and in doing so will bring with it new issues for you to concentrate on in your new year. Let go of the past, take a nap, don’t dwell on your mistakes, and focus on the changes you can make to improve your life in your astrological new year.
Aug 1, 2008, Total Solar Eclipse 10° Leo for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to Saros Series #126. It is not visible from the United States. It starts in northern Canada, passes the North Pole, into Northern Russia and south east into China. In Britain it will be visible as a partial eclipse. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
Each Saros cycle repeats itself approximately every 18 years 9 - 11 days, however the eclipse will have moved approximately 10 degrees through the zodiac. Therefore, the last eclipse in this series which occurred July 22, 1990 at 29° Cancer has moved 10 degrees to 10° Leo this month.
If the 1990 eclipse in this series changed your life, it is not likely that the same events will occur during this eclipse. There could be a similar theme that arises due to the saros series having a similar nature. An example: You got your first job in 1990; this eclipse could find you changing directions in your career. Or, you had your first child; this eclipse may find your child starting college or getting married. The theme of career or children will stand out among other things. If you are old enough, think back to that time and what significant event happened in your life as a result of that eclipse. Some of the same issues or energy may color your present circumstances due to this eclipse which will have a lasting effect on your direction.
Additionally, we want to look at when the last eclipse occurred at 10° Leo for other clues as to how you respond to eclipse activity if you have a planet near this degree. Even if you do not have your birth time, you can still find clues in the nature of the planet being influenced. The last eclipses to occur in Leo were in 1999 and 2000. Jan 31, 1999 (lunar) and July 31, 2000 (solar) we had an eclipse within orb of this eclipse degree in Leo. Those Leo eclipses were of a different saros series and contain different energy threads than the eclipse season we are going through now. Nevertheless, previous eclipses to planets or angles in your chart may provide telling signs of what will manifest and how you handle the energy presented.
Hosting an eclipse in the fixed fire sign of Leo will touch all of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in some respect and these signs will feel the power of this eclipse to some extent. If you have planets or angles (house 1,4,7,10) in any of these signs between 6-13 degrees, these planets and angles should be considered sensitive points in your chart. The element of the sign describes how the eclipse will be felt, or what type of crisis could result. Taurus (physical issues or tangible items) Leo (your will, creative energy) Scorpio (emotional, vague or unclear issues) Aquarius (intellectual).
While opinions may vary as to how tight the orb should be kept, I believe any planet within 4 degrees of the eclipse will awaken to the energy. There are several charts in my research (my own included) where planets were influenced by an eclipse up to 7 degrees.
The general rules for the duration of a solar eclipse is that the energy affects your circumstances one year for every hour of the eclipse’s duration, up to 3 ½ years. Astrological research has shown that an eclipse can change a life permanently. Another rule is that eclipses last from one solar eclipse to the next solar eclipse or lunar eclipse to lunar eclipse. For forecasting purposes, the life span of this solar eclipse in Leo will last until the next solar eclipse Jan. 26, 2009, although it may be activated by future transits for several more years.
While eclipse energy is often felt within a month on either side of the eclipse, there are hot spots that may trigger events related to the eclipse. Those hot spot dates are when the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 1, 2008, although you may hear something within a few days on either side of this date. Then when the sun opposes the eclipse Jan 28/29, 2009 (just 3 days after our next solar eclipse).
Each eclipse has a ruler, the planet ruling the sign where the eclipse falls. Should there be another planet within 3 degrees of the luminaries (sun or moon) that planet becomes the ruler of the eclipse. Mercury will conjunct this solar eclipse and its influence will likely be expressed through paperwork, documents, agreements, contracts, or some form of news.
All eclipses, whether solar or lunar have the potential to change your circumstances. They are expressed through a crisis of some sort. Often times a new beginning involves letting go of something from the past, whether it be a person, a relationship, an object, or behavior. If this eclipse is conjunct or in opposition to a planet in your natal chart you should expect those planets to become sensitized to the energy. The houses that the planet rules in your chart will be influenced as well and issues that involve those houses will come up for review. This eclipse will have a power rating of a triple new moon and the message that it carries will have a positive outcome in your life even if you don’t see this during the transitional phase.
This is a new moon which points to fresh starts, new opportunities, and exciting new possibilities. The universe pours its energy into the house of this Solar Eclipse and will show itself in your outward circumstances. In other words, the eclipse will change something in your life that will be apparent for all to see.
The Universe has a way of moving us forward in our lives to a point where we become a better version of ourselves. The process can be easy or difficult; it really depends on how you handle what develops. Trust that whatever comes up is important for you as you are evolving into the person you were destined to become.
Virgo, this solar eclipse will fall in your 12th house.
If your birthday falls Sept 12 – Sept 20 you will feel this eclipse more than other Virgos, although all Virgos may sense the shifts in their lives. Mercury will conjunct the luminaries (sun and moon) which makes Mercury ruler of this eclipse. Mercury also has rulership over your sign and your 10th house of career and your role in society.
Mercury may be communicating something through this eclipse concerning your career or your title although this is not a career eclipse. It just means that career or your title could be influenced during the process of change. The career influences may not relate to you at all, they could relate to your partner or an important male figure. The planets and houses in your chart also rule over people in your life.
Hosting a solar eclipse in your 12th house may find you letting go of some part of your past now as you begin a new phase or lifestyle. This may refer to a health issue, subconscious or psychological issue, or a part of your life that has been routine for a long time. There is a fresh start on the horizon which may come to you through news, thinking and ideas, documents, travel, or an authority figure.
The 12th house is the last house of your horoscope and the place we go to heal ourselves from past wounds. This is also the area that governs what we have done that has held us back in our lives. In the months following this eclipse you may find that you spend more time alone planning and preparing for the year ahead. Your job or schooling may also require that you spend more time alone.
If you have had a psychological issue such as depressed mood or anxiety, this could be the turning point you need to help you move away from this experience. If you have been confined in any way, you should expect to regain your freedom of movement again.
This solar eclipse may offer you a new beginning concerning your spiritual awareness. If you do not attend a church, you may decide its time that you did. Spiritual progress may be enhanced through research, within a group, or through meditation. Your intuition may also become sharper, you may learn to trust the voice within, or you may tune into your spiritual guides.
You may decide to help someone less fortunate than yourself in the very near future. This person or group may have health problems or may be confined in some way, such as an elderly person that can’t leave their home, which is one example.
This solar eclipse may bring a secret to light and when it does something will become very clear to you. This could concern a publishing or media matter, legal proceedings, or long distance travel. Children, romance, and/or creativity endeavors may be highlighted. Long-term agreements concerning any of these areas mentioned may begin, end, or the process of severing agreements may be well underway before we get to the next solar eclipse. A solar eclipse is not only a new beginning, but also a new ending because it falls in the last house of your horoscope.
Finally, the eclipse may point to an old way of life passing away to make room for the new you. Don’t worry needlessly about how this will happen; the Universe will point the way.
August 5, Venus enters your sign.
Anything you wish to do to improve your appearance is favored now. Buy a new designer outfit, get a facial, try a new hairstyle, or schedule that plastic surgery you have been thinking about. It doesn’t matter who you are, Venus will help you look and feel fabulous; you may feel more attractive now. Happily, you don’t have to do anything to grab the attention of others. Venus will create the attraction between you and the eyes of someone else! Lucky you, Virgo! You are the zodiacs flavor of the month!
This transit favors all of your relationships. Singles should get out and mingle as you may meet someone in the weeks ahead and start dating. If you are in a romantic or marital relationship, Venus could strengthen your commitment and increase your desire for one another. Problems may also be mended now.
Your personality will be warm and generous, having to compromise will be easier for you and your attitude will be pleasant. People will be taking notice, just look around!
August 10, Mercury enters your sign.
This is a busy time for you Virgo, with many errands, phone calls, appointments, paper work and running about. You will speak effectively and need to be heard. Those of you in sales could sell snow to an Eskimo right now. You won’t be happy just sitting in the background, for you will require quite a bit of attention during this transit, enough so that you get your views across. You may find that you are a bit restless and no one thing will satisfy your desires. Travel or transportation matters may be on your agenda. Short trips are favored as well and communications related to contracts, negotiations, children, healthcare and finances.
August 16, 2008 Partial Lunar Eclipse 25° Aquarius for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to saros series 138. Visible over most of Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, and South America. Although only a partial eclipse, this eclipse should be quite spectacular. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
The last eclipse in this saros series occurred Aug. 6, 1990 at 14 Aquarius. This eclipse has moved 10 degrees further along the zodiacal longitude, therefore if the last eclipse in this series was felt in your life, this eclipse would be much different unless you have natal planets conjunct or opposite the sun in Leo or the full moon in Aquarius. Natal planets or angles within 4 degrees of 24 degrees of the fixed signs, Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius and Leo may also become sensitive to the lunar eclipse energy.
Let’s look at when we had our last eclipse at or near 24 Aquarius in order to help judge how your chart responds to this series of eclipses. Feb 16, 1999 a solar eclipse in Aquarius within orb of our current eclipse. Something that began then may end now. Looking back at previous eclipses to your chart is merely a tool to help judge corresponding eclipse activity to your chart. The energy that each individual saros series contains is presented in past and future eclipses of the same series. The saros cycle and the energy it contains carry more weight.
Do not be misled by anyone who suggests a partial eclipse to have less impact than a total eclipse. They have obviously never experienced one to planets or angles in their chart. The last partial eclipse in this series changed my life, my future, my family, my home, my status, my spiritual awareness and led me to my study of astrology. It was mentioned on my Your Astrologer page. The last year has proven to me that I have come full circle in 18 years with many similar themes and underlying cosmic currents. You may sense similarities in your life as well.
I’ve mentioned that solar eclipses influence your outward circumstances, areas that are obvious. Lunar eclipses tend to influence relationship matters and when they touch an important planet or angle in your chart, they too may change your circumstances which would be obvious to others. Single or attached; your relationship with something or someone could change soon. Just as our monthly full moon touches us inwardly and emotionally and points to the culmination of a particular relationship or event, a lunar eclipse does the same although it is much more powerful.
The rules for the duration of this lunar eclipse are that the life span is equal to one month for every hour of the eclipse, lasting up to 6 months. This Lunar eclipse at 24 Aquarius will last 3 hrs 9 min which suggests that you will know how this eclipse will unfold by the time the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 15/16, 2008 although the energy is active a few days before and after these dates. Six months takes us to the next lunar eclipse Feb 9, 2009.
Pay attention to information that comes in during all eclipses because once a planet triggers and sets into motion energies related to the eclipse you may feel caught off guard. Eclipses influence our sense of timing and may cause us to feel that we are not ready, or there isn’t enough time to assimilate all that is going on. Try not to make any fast moves or decisions during an eclipse because the atmosphere is too volatile and there probably isn’t much you can do to change the situation at hand. It will prove to be more disruptive if you try and cling to any changes that are forthcoming. You may feel this eclipse within a month to the day on either side of the eclipse, or it may take until the next lunar eclipse in February to fully take shape. If you have planets directly influenced by this eclipse, it is unlikely that you will have to wait to hear something concerning the planet influenced and the houses that it governs in your chart.
Virgo, this lunar eclipse falls in your 6th house.
If your birthday falls Sept 12 – Sept 20 you will feel this eclipse more than others in your sign. The planetary ruler of this eclipse is Neptune as it conjuncts this lunar eclipse and opposes the sun in your sign. You may be asked to shed illusions, move away from the past, or let go of a negative situation. This lunar eclipse will pinpoint the culmination or an important development which leads you to a new start in the near future. I know some of you felt the eclipses in your sign in 2006 and 2007, but before you start groaning, these are not near as difficult.
Mars has reached the end of your sign and squares Pluto. These two combined are forces to be reckoned with, neither gives up easily. Pluto’s aim is to transform your life however you may try and hold onto what is comfortable for you. Mars stirs the pot by setting off a drive to move ahead. You may feel pressured to move forward or there may be power struggles. Saturn (a stabilizing influence) Mercury (news and ideas) and Venus (the lesser benefactor) reach out to Jupiter on your behalf. Jupiter expands what it touches Virgo, and these 3 planetary supporters in your sign will help you to make the transition. This eclipse could play an important role in your long-term security, for your family unit or current living conditions.
Some Virgos may find their daily routines are rearranged due to a long distance move. (Be sure and read your rising sign for home-related themes) A financial arrangement concerning mortgages, child support, per diem, relocation benefits, insurances or loans may be highlighted.
The 6th house is the house of work, chores, daily routines, a service you provide, or a service someone provides for you such as a housekeeper, babysitter, or lawn maintenance company. You may decide to cut back due to expenses and not use a housekeeper any longer. Or, your housekeeper may have to leave you for some reason. This may not seem like a big deal for some, but if you’ve had the same person in your home for 18 years, this could be a sad time for you.
Your career is not highlighted during this time, but the work you are doing or a service you provide could change in the months ahead. If some part of your job changes, the stars are aligned to help you increase your earnings and/or receive a better benefits package. Employees or a coworker may leave your business or office. With eclipses falling in your work sector and your house of endings, it’s possible that you may be retiring due to either of this month’s eclipses.
Matters surrounding the efforts you take to keep you body healthy, such as diet and exercise may be up for review. News about a recent check up or news about someone’s health that you are close to may come in. Perhaps this eclipse will help you to take better care of yourself, or you quit a negative habit.
You may see an ending to a previous health condition. If you have trouble with your feet, allergies, a difficult to diagnose illness, anxiety or a nervous disorder you may find a specialist now that will help you in the near future. If you have a health problem, look to the Universe to help you find a way out of it and believe in your healing! Because of Neptune’s influence, I would suggest a second opinion for any news related to your health. There could be a misdiagnosis, you could receive the wrong medication, or you may not tolerate a medication you’ve been prescribed. I mention this only as a precautionary measure.
The 6th house governs domestic pets; the 12th house governs large animals such as horses and livestock. The eclipse could relate to your furry friend or scaly companion. Since this is a high-powered full moon, keep your eye on any animals you may have as they may fall under the topic of the eclipse. Several years ago I lost my aging dog within days of an eclipse to my 6th house. Daisy was 16 years old at the time. It was time for her to go, but it was painful for us. I hope you will not experience anything like this but I believe that every loss we go through opens the door for someone or something new to come into our lives. Maybe you’ll finally give in to the children and say yes to a new pet!
Finally, a secret love affair that started at work could end under this eclipse. If this is you, there is support in the heavens which suggests you will be fine emotionally and psychologically.
August 19, Mars enters your 2nd house. Since July 1 you’ve had Mars transiting your sign. You may have had energy to burn during this transit, or you may have felt more competitive. You might have found yourself caught up in a heated discussion more than a few times, or you may have had less patience. This has been a time of activity in your life where you work hard to further your own interests.
Mars now moves into your earnings and possessions sector so you may go through some hard earned cash. You could make great strides in paying off debts now, or there may be a dispute over a bill. In your relationship, you may have to take responsibility for financial decisions. This could also be a social time, but one where more money is spent.
Aug 22, the Sun enters Virgo, Happy Birthday to you!!
This transit will help your overall health and vitality as this is a time to recharge yourself. You may appear more confident now, or you may take on a leadership role. You could feel more attractive or others seem to be drawn to you. You will focus on your personal needs as this can be a self-fulfilling time however this is not born out of selfishness. It’s important for you to focus on the progress you have made and look at what you can do to improve your overall circumstances and move forward. The next month points out what you need and it’s about time!
