August 2008 Monthly Horoscope Forecast

As you enter the month of August the cosmos is highly charged with eclipse energy. Your horoscope has been expanded with information pertaining to this month’s eclipses and previous Leo/Aquarius eclipses to your solar chart.
You’ll also find dates when the atmosphere will be ripe for developments related to this eclipse. Please read your rising sign for a comprehensive outlook on this month’s eclipse activity; you will need your birth time. The information for all signs has been repeated in each horoscope, so once you read it you can scroll through it in the next forecast.
August 1 – August 22, the spotlight is on your career, position, parenting and honors. This house also governs the dominant parent and authority figures. Venus continues her transit here through August 5th, and Mercury hangs around through August 10th. The sun may also point to themes going on with your mate.
Employers may recognize you for your efforts; there could be a promotion or fringe benefits coming your way. You may receive a reward or recognition for a title you hold. If you are asked to work on an important project, be sure you have the knowledge it requires to complete the task because the sun can put you in the spotlight for positive or negative reasons.
If you are unemployed and looking for work, do not delay getting your resume out because career efforts made can pay off now. Read your rising sign to see if there are any planetary influences on income. If you are looking for work, progress could be made with the help of a friend or someone in a group that you are affiliated with, especially if this is a contract job or one where a specialist is needed in your field.
If you do not work, you may look at what you are doing and ways to become more productive. The 10th house also rules your parents, more specifically your father. Issues surrounding your parent or parenting issues will be an important part of this transit.
Aug 1, 2008, Total Solar Eclipse 10° Leo for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to Saros Series #126. It is not visible from the United States. It starts in northern Canada, passes the North Pole, into Northern Russia and south east into China. In Britain it will be visible as a partial eclipse. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
Each Saros cycle repeats itself approximately every 18 years 9 - 11 days, however the eclipse will have moved approximately 10 degrees through the zodiac. Therefore, the last eclipse in this series which occurred July 22, 1990 at 29° Cancer has moved 10 degrees to 10° Leo this month.
If the 1990 eclipse in this series changed your life, it is not likely that the same events will occur during this eclipse. There could be a similar theme that arises due to the saros series having a similar nature. An example: You got your first job in 1990; this eclipse could find you changing directions in your career. Or, you had your first child; this eclipse may find your child starting college or getting married. The theme of career or children will stand out among other things. If you are old enough, think back to that time and what significant event happened in your life as a result of that eclipse. Some of the same issues or energy may color your present circumstances due to this eclipse which will have a lasting effect on your direction.
Additionally, we want to look at when the last eclipse occurred at 10° Leo for other clues as to how you respond to eclipse activity if you have a planet near this degree. Even if you do not have your birth time, you can still find clues in the nature of the planet being influenced. The last eclipses to occur in Leo were in 1999 and 2000. Jan 31, 1999 (lunar) and July 31, 2000 (solar) we had an eclipse within orb of this eclipse degree in Leo. Those Leo eclipses were of a different saros series and contain different energy threads than the eclipse season we are going through now. Nevertheless, previous eclipses to planets or angles in your chart may provide telling signs of what will manifest and how you handle the energy presented.
Hosting an eclipse in the fixed fire sign of Leo will touch all of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in some respect and these signs will feel the power of this eclipse to some extent. If you have planets or angles (house 1,4,7,10) in any of these signs between 6-13 degrees, these planets and angles should be considered sensitive points in your chart. The element of the sign describes how the eclipse will be felt, or what type of crisis could result. Taurus (physical issues or tangible items) Leo (your will, creative energy) Scorpio (emotional, vague or unclear issues) Aquarius (intellectual).
While opinions may vary as to how tight the orb should be kept, I believe any planet within 4 degrees of the eclipse will awaken to the energy. There are several charts in my research (my own included) where planets were influenced by an eclipse up to 7 degrees.
The general rules for the duration of a solar eclipse is that the energy affects your circumstances one year for every hour of the eclipse’s duration, up to 3 ½ years. Astrological research has shown that an eclipse can change a life permanently. Another rule is that eclipses last from one solar eclipse to the next solar eclipse or lunar eclipse to lunar eclipse. For forecasting purposes, the life span of this solar eclipse in Leo will last until the next solar eclipse Jan. 26, 2009, although it may be activated by future transits for several more years.
While eclipse energy is often felt within a month on either side of the eclipse, there are hot spots that may trigger events related to the eclipse. Those hot spot dates are when the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 1, 2008, although you may hear something within a few days on either side of this date. Then when the sun opposes the eclipse Jan 28/29, 2009 (just 3 days after our next solar eclipse).
Each eclipse has a ruler, the planet ruling the sign where the eclipse falls. Should there be another planet within 3 degrees of the luminaries (sun or moon) that planet becomes the ruler of the eclipse. Mercury will conjunct this solar eclipse and its influence will likely be expressed through paperwork, documents, agreements, contracts, or some form of news.
All eclipses, whether solar or lunar have the potential to change your circumstances. They are expressed through a crisis of some sort. Often times a new beginning involves letting go of something from the past, whether it be a person, a relationship, an object, or behavior. If this eclipse is conjunct or in opposition to a planet in your natal chart you should expect those planets to become sensitized to the energy. The houses that the planet rules in your chart will be influenced as well and issues that involve those houses will come up for review. This eclipse will have a power rating of a triple new moon and the message that it carries will have a positive outcome in your life even if you don’t see this during the transitional phase.
This is a new moon which points to fresh starts, new opportunities, and exciting new possibilities. The universe pours its energy into the house of this Solar Eclipse and will show itself in your outward circumstances. In other words, the eclipse will change something in your life that will be apparent for all to see.
The Universe has a way of moving us forward in our lives to a point where we become a better version of ourselves. The process can be easy or difficult; it really depends on how you handle what develops. Trust that whatever comes up is important for you as you are evolving into the person you were destined to become.
Scorpio, this eclipse will fall in your solar 10th house of career, recognition, parenting, and authority figures. Scorpios with birthdays Oct 29- Nov 6 will feel this eclipse more than others, although all Scorpios may note something shifting in this area within the next 6 months.
If you are looking for work or wanting to change career paths, this eclipse could help you make progress now. You may have concerns about your income or benefits, which is perfectly understandable, however Venus (a money sign) will trine Pluto (your ruler) on August 4 which could help your financial situation. The eclipse is not in difficult aspect to any planetary body which makes me hopeful that a negative situation you may be going through will turn around soon.
You could move out of a dead end job and into something more stable without going through an unemployment period. Be sure and give your former employer adequate notice and leave the door open should you need to go back in the future. Hopefully if you do change jobs you leave on good terms. Some Scorpios may begin working from home either for your company or you could start your own business now.
Career developments may include travel opportunities or you may decide to earn your degree at your company’s expense. If you want to get back to the classroom most large companies will reimburse you for tuition expenses, talk to your Human Resources director.
If you have waited far too long for recognition or a promotion, your wait may be over. There may be changes going on within your company and whatever happens could move you into a different position or your job title could change. If this is you, you’ll probably be happier once you get past the transition.
The 10th house governs fame! Your name could make the news, or you might be published if you have written a book or excelled in some other form of artistic expression. Publishing, the media, the creative arts, legal contracts and/or foreign relations may also play a role.
As I mentioned previously, the 10th house does govern your father or the dominant parent. If you and your parent have not been getting along, something going on in their life could change and this eclipse can help you to mend your relationship. If you have been separated from your father, he may be available now or he may relocate closer to where you are. If your father has had any issues that have concerned you, this eclipse could set matters right for him and in doing so it may offer you peace of mind. Additionally, childcare may be affected by this eclipse for those of you that have small children.
August 5, Venus glides into your 11th house, Mercury follows Aug 10.
You’ve heard the saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”. With so much emphasis on career this month Scorpio, this may have some bearing on you and possibly for career reasons. Stay in touch with your friends this month, make some phone calls.
This is the best time for friendships, relationships with in-laws or extended family members from a second marriage or any group activity. Venus helps to make relating with the people go very smoothly and you’ll notice that people tend to be friendlier now. A friend could drop a gift in your lap, or the people you come in contact with may be generous with you. Business meetings, seminars, or group involvement should be an enjoyable experience for you.
This is also a social time where you will get together with friends. Conferences, social invitations and in-laws may be reasons for a quick trip. Your favorable dates for travel are August 13 –16 and Aug 26-28. August 17/18 may find you caught in a difficult situation with a friend, group of peers or in a romantic relationship. It seems you could talk your way out of what comes up, or you could present an idea that helps to settle a disagreement. Venus will help smooth out the rough spots as it’s easier to compromise as she transits this sector of your chart.
August 16, 2008 Partial Lunar Eclipse 25° Aquarius for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to saros series 138. Visible over most of Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, and South America. Although only a partial eclipse, this eclipse should be quite spectacular. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
The last eclipse in this saros series occurred Aug. 6, 1990 at 14 Aquarius. This eclipse has moved 10 degrees further along the zodiacal longitude, therefore if the last eclipse in this series was felt in your life, this eclipse would be much different unless you have natal planets conjunct or opposite the sun in Leo or the full moon in Aquarius. Natal planets or angles within 4 degrees of 24 degrees of the fixed signs, Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius and Leo may also become sensitive to the lunar eclipse energy.
Let’s look at when we had our last eclipse at or near 24 Aquarius in order to help judge how your chart responds to this series of eclipses. Feb 16, 1999 a solar eclipse in Aquarius within orb of our current eclipse. Something that began then may end now. Looking back at previous eclipses to your chart is merely a tool to help judge corresponding eclipse activity to your chart. The energy that each individual saros series contains is presented in past and future eclipses of the same series. The saros cycle and the energy it contains carry more weight.
Do not be misled by anyone who suggests a partial eclipse to have less impact than a total eclipse. They have obviously never experienced a partial eclipse to planets or angles in their chart. The last partial eclipse in this series changed my life, my future, my family, my home, my status, my spiritual awareness and led me to my study of astrology. It was mentioned on my Your Astrologer page. The last year has proven to me that I have come full circle in 18 years with many similar themes and underlying cosmic currents. You may sense similarities in your life as well.
I’ve mentioned that solar eclipses influence your outward circumstances, areas that are obvious. Lunar eclipses tend to influence relationship matters and when they touch an important planet or angle in your chart, they too may change your circumstances which would be obvious to others. Single or attached; your relationship with something or someone could change soon. Just as our monthly full moon touches us inwardly and emotionally and points to the culmination of a particular relationship or event, a lunar eclipse does the same although it is much more powerful.
The rules for the duration of this lunar eclipse are that the life span is equal to one month for every hour of the eclipse, lasting up to 6 months. This Lunar eclipse at 24 Aquarius will last 3 hrs 9 min which suggests that you will know how this eclipse will unfold by the time the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 15/16, 2008 although the energy is active a few days before and after these dates. Six months takes us to the next lunar eclipse Feb 9, 2009.
Pay attention to information that comes in during all eclipses because once a planet triggers and sets into motion energies related to the eclipse you may feel caught off guard. Eclipses influence our sense of timing and may cause us to feel that we are not ready, or there isn’t enough time to assimilate all that is going on. Try not to make any fast moves or decisions during an eclipse because the atmosphere is too volatile and there probably isn’t much you can do to change the situation at hand. It will prove to be more disruptive if you try and cling to any changes that are forthcoming. You may feel this eclipse within a month to the day on either side of the eclipse, or it may take until the next lunar eclipse in February to fully take shape. If you have planets directly influenced by this eclipse, it is unlikely that you will have to wait to hear something concerning the planet influenced and the houses that it governs in your chart.
Scorpio, this lunar eclipse falls in your 4th house.
If your birthday falls Nov 13 - Nov 19, you will feel this eclipse more than others. The planetary ruler of this eclipse is Neptune as it conjuncts this lunar eclipse and opposes the sun in your 10th house. With Neptune playing host to this eclipse, you may be asked to shed illusions, you may feel sad or discouraged, you could hear a secret, or you may experience a heightened sense of awareness.
Mars, poised at the end of your 11th house of friends and groups will square Pluto, the planet that can transform your circumstances. Pluto resides at the end of your 2nd house of income and values. There may be financial talks now that prove difficult, so do be careful not to come on too strong if you are caught up in a pressured or heated discussion. Money may not be important to you; this could be a situation that concerns your ethics and values, or something more valuable to you than income or possessions. Pluto’s influence touches us at a subconscious level and when he touches an important planet in your chart; it can become a watershed moment.
Most of us have opinions or feelings about something where we refuse to budge. This is where we expect a win win situation. Mars/Pluto combined energies can alter what we deny giving up no matter how hard we sink our heels in the dirt. The energies at work force change upon us. As harsh as this may seem, we all go through it at some point. After a little time of stomping about we look at our lives and find we are in a better place. Not every Scorpio will experience this, but you may be the Scorpio that needs to hear it.
This series of eclipses falls on two sensitive angles of your chart. Because they are different degrees, some Scorpios will experience the career aspects and others will feel it in their home, however if you are born with your sun near this lunar eclipse degree you are likely to feel it in both areas and may feel it at all four angles of your chart. The others angles will include relationships or formal contracts, all of which could transform your life from top to bottom.
You do have some vital energy at work for you right now. Saturn which builds foundations, Venus, money and your relationships, as well as Mercury, governing groups and ideas are all at a supportive angle to Jupiter, your benefactor, transiting your house of agreements. Should there be changes within your company, your home, or a job loss, there may be an open door right around the corner, just look for it.
There may be an ending to a home situation. There could be a restructuring of your family unit or your living situation. There could be a loss of a business or employees. There could be a transition of a family member due to illness. Your position or title may change. You may be asked to relocate for career reasons, or for your partner’s career. If you do you will probably move close to a large body of water or to an area that gets a lot of rain and/or storms.
August 19, Mars enters your 12th house.
This transit has some positive and negative effects. It can be a good transit for research, schooling, or just getting hard work out of the way. Another possibility is that you may dwell on problems and feel unappreciated, or you may have a short temper. There may be a monkey wrench thrown into your work or routines now. Mars governs your 6th house of health. Don’t let yourself get overheated; headaches, stress, minor accidents and rashes could be manifest. Just a precaution, this is nothing you should worry over. Stay busy, volunteer your services to an elderly person or someone less fortunate than yourself.
Aug 22, the Sun transits your 11th house.
The sun’s transit will highlight your social life now. New people may come into your circle or you may mingle with friends now. You could find yourself in a leadership position among your peers. Extended family, business meetings, and your goals are also emphasized. This is not a time for you to go off alone to find your pot of gold because you will benefit by interacting with others. This is also the house where your aspirations are met; just believe it can happen to you.
