As you enter the month of August the cosmos is highly charged with eclipse energy. Your horoscope has been expanded with information pertaining to this month’s eclipses and previous Leo/Aquarius eclipses to your solar chart.
You’ll also find dates when the atmosphere will be ripe for developments related to this eclipse. Please read your rising sign for a comprehensive outlook on this month’s eclipse activity; you will need your birth time. The information for all signs has been repeated in each horoscope, so once you read it you can scroll through it in the next forecast.
August 1 – August 22,
the spotlight is on higher education, increased knowledge, legal issues, long distance travel, foreigners or foreign relations, religion and beliefs, media, or publishing.
Religion or spiritual growth may be important areas for you. Sudden insight, increased spiritual awareness or psychic tendencies may be more pronounced now. Late July might have held this influence on you as well.
You may travel and meet people from a completely different background than your own. If you do take a trip this month, you will find that you take home new knowledge. At work you may be handling foreign relations, travel issues, or you may be introduced to someone from a different country and become fast friends.
You may take up a new course of study, for business or personal reasons. Fall semester is right around the corner; you may be getting ready to head back to a classroom setting. You may run into an old college friend this month, or you may spend more time with classmates if you’re in school.
This sector of your chart governs truth and law. You could become involved in a legal agreement, or you may be looking into legal issues for personal or business reasons.
Aug 1, 2008, Total Solar Eclipse 10° Leo for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to Saros Series #126. It is not visible from the United States. It starts in northern Canada, passes the North Pole, into Northern Russia and south east into China. In Britain it will be visible as a partial eclipse. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
Each Saros cycle repeats itself approximately every 18 years 9 - 11 days, however the eclipse will have moved approximately 10 degrees through the zodiac. Therefore, the last eclipse in this series which occurred July 22, 1990 at 29° Cancer has moved 10 degrees to 10° Leo this month.
If the 1990 eclipse in this series changed your life, it is not likely that the same events will occur during this eclipse. There could be a similar theme that arises due to the saros series having a similar nature. An example: You got your first job in 1990; this eclipse could find you changing directions in your career. Or, you had your first child; this eclipse may find your child starting college or getting married. The theme of career or children will stand out among other things. If you are old enough, think back to that time and what significant event happened in your life as a result of that eclipse. Some of the same issues or energy may color your present circumstances due to this eclipse which will have a lasting effect on your direction.
Additionally, we want to look at when the last eclipse occurred at 10° Leo for other clues as to how you respond to eclipse activity if you have a planet near this degree. Even if you do not have your birth time, you can still find clues in the nature of the planet being influenced. The last eclipses to occur in Leo were in 1999 and 2000. Jan 31, 1999 (lunar) and July 31, 2000 (solar) we had an eclipse within orb of this eclipse degree in Leo. Those Leo eclipses were of a different saros series and contain different energy threads than the eclipse season we are going through now. Nevertheless, previous eclipses to planets or angles in your chart may provide telling signs of what will manifest and how you handle the energy presented.
Hosting an eclipse in the fixed fire sign of Leo will touch all of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in some respect and these signs will feel the power of this eclipse to some extent. If you have planets or angles (house 1,4,7,10) in any of these signs between 6-13 degrees, these planets and angles should be considered sensitive points in your chart. The element of the sign describes how the eclipse will be felt, or what type of crisis could result. Taurus (physical issues or tangible items) Leo (your will, creative energy) Scorpio (emotional, vague or unclear issues) Aquarius (intellectual).
While opinions may vary as to how tight the orb should be kept, I believe any planet within 4 degrees of the eclipse will awaken to the energy. There are several charts in my research (my own included) where planets were influenced by an eclipse up to 7 degrees.
The general rules for the duration of a solar eclipse is that the energy affects your circumstances one year for every hour of the eclipse’s duration, up to 3 ½ years. Astrological research has shown that an eclipse can change a life permanently. Another rule is that eclipses last from one solar eclipse to the next solar eclipse or lunar eclipse to lunar eclipse. For forecasting purposes, the life span of this solar eclipse in Leo will last until the next solar eclipse Jan. 26, 2009, although it may be activated by future transits for several more years.
While eclipse energy is often felt within a month on either side of the eclipse, there are hot spots that may trigger events related to the eclipse. Those hot spots are when the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 1, 2008, although you may hear something a within a few days on either side of this date. Then when the sun opposes the eclipse Jan 28/29, 2009 (just 3 days after our next solar eclipse).
Each eclipse has a ruler, the planet ruling the sign where the eclipse falls. Should there be another planet within 3 degrees of the luminaries (sun or moon) that planet becomes the ruler of the eclipse. Mercury will conjunct this solar eclipse and its influence will likely be expressed through paperwork, documents, agreements, contracts, or some form of news.
All eclipses, whether solar or lunar have the potential to change your circumstances. They are expressed through a crisis of some sort. Often times a new beginning involves letting go of something from the past, whether it be a person, a relationship, an object, or behavior. If this eclipse is conjunct or in opposition to a planet in your natal chart you should expect those planets to become sensitized to the energy. The houses that the planet rules in your chart will be influenced as well and issues that involve those houses will come up for review. This eclipse will have a power rating of a triple new moon and the message that it carries will have a positive outcome in your life even if you don’t see this during the transitional phase.
This is a new moon which points to fresh starts, new opportunities, and exciting new possibilities. The universe pours its energy into the house of this Solar Eclipse and will show itself in your outward circumstances. In other words, the eclipse will change something in your life that will be apparent for all to see.
The Universe has a way of moving us forward in our lives to a point where we become a better version of ourselves. The process can be easy or difficult; it really depends on how you handle what develops. Trust that whatever comes up is important for you as you are evolving into the person you were destined to become.
Sagittarius, this eclipse will fall in your solar 9th house.
Sagittarians with birthdays Nov 28 -Dec 6 will feel this eclipse more than others, although all Sagittarians may experience something shifting in this area within the next 6 months.
This eclipse is concerned with increasing your knowledge for spiritual development, career matters, and personal successes. You may find a new church, spend more time in mediation, study metaphysics, the healing arts, or become much more in tune to the spiritual side of your life.
There may be changes and new developments for you concerning your education. You may decide to go back to college, or you may earn your degree now. I realize a degree may be earned in a lot less time than what it takes for an eclipse series to repeat itself, however it’s big news for someone who has taken classes for years and never received their diploma. I know at woman who went to college 42 years before earning her degree. It wasn’t the degree that was important; it was schooling and interacting with the teachers that she enjoyed so much. This may be the year that you change your mind about what you want to do long term and go back to school for your Masters. Or you may take advantage of your company’s tuition reimbursement program. You may become a sorority member or be involved in theatre or other form of the creative arts. You may commit to learning something new in entertainment, Internet technology, publishing or media related field. Additionally, if you are a writer, this eclipse could bring your big break or you may get your works published.
This eclipse could find you traveling a great deal throughout the coming months for your career or to visit a parent or grandparent. This could be a fresh start for your partner to begin traveling if it doesn’t influence you in this manner. If you never travel or haven’t the opportunity to take a vacation, you may be setting off for distant shores within a few short months. This could be the first time that you’ve ever been aboard an airplane! This could be a dream vacation or one that you won as a prize! Or you may be adopting a child from a foreign country due to this eclipse!
You could file a lawsuit, or you may be wrapped up in a legal issue that takes months to resolve itself. This could relate to taxes, alimony, divorce, child support, insurances, inheritances, loans or credit, commissions, workman’s compensation, or government benefits.
August 5, Venus glides into your 10th house, Mercury follows Aug 10.
Expect favors from employers, authority figures, parents, or from someone who can help you get to the top! You could receive a pay increase, kudos, or better benefits on the job. You may spend more time thinking about your job, or more time chatting with co-workers. Relationships with co-workers and employers are excellent during this transit. You may be sensitive to their needs now. There may be flirting going on at the office, with you of course. There could be changes in the direction your career is moving. You will come up with ways to work smarter, not harder, and ways to advance, earn more, or excel at what you are currently doing. Dress to impress this month, Sagittarius.
Your desire to support your partner’s ambition will also be marked during this time.
Be careful if you are self-employed, or if you are in a position that is not supervised. Venus does not like work and can cause laziness on the job which could block your progress. If your intellect is not being challenged or you don’t have enough to keep you busy at work, you may feel more like an under-achiever during this time.
You may be thinking more about your father, or feel the need to connect with him on a deeper level. This would be a good time to reach out and check on your Dad. You could also see your father in yourself, or see yourself in a position of authority, not that you actually will be. Parental issues or parenting may seem easier during this transit.
August 16, 2008 Partial Lunar Eclipse 25° Aquarius for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to saros series 138. Visible over most of Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, and South America. Although only a partial eclipse, this eclipse should be quite spectacular. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
The last eclipse in this saros series occurred Aug. 6, 1990 at 14 Aquarius. This eclipse has moved 10 degrees further along the zodiacal longitude, therefore if the last eclipse in this series was felt in your life, this eclipse would be much different unless you have natal planets conjunct or opposite the sun in Leo or the full moon in Aquarius. Natal planets or angles within 4 degrees of 24 degrees of the fixed signs, Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius and Leo may also become sensitive to the lunar eclipse energy.
Let’s look at when we had our last eclipse at or near 24 Aquarius in order to help judge how your chart responds to this series of eclipses. Feb 16, 1999 a solar eclipse in Aquarius within orb of our current eclipse. Something that began then may end now. Looking back at previous eclipses to your chart is merely a tool to help judge corresponding eclipse activity to your chart. The energy that each individual saros series contains is presented in past and future eclipses of the same series. The saros cycle and the energy it contains carry more weight.
Do not be misled by anyone who suggests a partial eclipse to have less impact than a total eclipse. They have obviously never experienced a partial eclipse to planets or angles in their chart. The last partial eclipse in this series changed my life, my future, my family, my home, my status, my spiritual awareness and led me to my study of astrology. It was mentioned on my Your Astrologer page. The last year has proven to me that I have come full circle in 18 years with many similar themes and underlying cosmic currents. You may sense similarities in your life as well.
I’ve mentioned that solar eclipses influence your outward circumstances, areas that are obvious. Lunar eclipses tend to influence relationship matters and when they touch an important planet or angle in your chart, they too may change your circumstances which would be obvious to others. Single or attached; your relationship with something or someone could change soon. Just as our monthly full moon touches us inwardly and emotionally and points to the culmination of a particular relationship or event, a lunar eclipse does the same although it is much more powerful.
The rules for the duration of this lunar eclipse are that the life span is equal to one month for every hour of the eclipse, lasting up to 6 months. This Lunar eclipse at 24 Aquarius will last 3 hrs 9 min which suggests that you will know how this eclipse will unfold by the time the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 15/16, 2008 although the energy is active a few days before and after these dates. Six months takes us to the next lunar eclipse Feb 9, 2009.
Pay attention to information that comes in during all eclipses because once a planet triggers and sets into motion energies related to the eclipse you may feel caught off guard. Eclipses influence our sense of timing and may cause us to feel that we are not ready, or there isn’t enough time to assimilate all that is going on. Try not to make any fast moves or decisions during an eclipse because the atmosphere is too volatile and there probably isn’t much you can do to change the situation at hand. It will prove to be more disruptive if you try and cling to any changes that are forthcoming. You may feel this eclipse within a month to the day on either side of the eclipse, or it may take until the next lunar eclipse in February to fully take shape. If you have planets directly influenced by this eclipse, it is unlikely that you will have to wait to hear something concerning the planet influenced and the houses that it governs in your chart.
Sagittarius, this lunar eclipse falls in your 3rd house.
If your birthday falls Dec 12 - Dec 20, you will feel this eclipse more than others. The planetary ruler of this eclipse is Neptune as it conjuncts this lunar eclipse and opposes the sun in your 9th house. With Neptune playing host to this eclipse, you may be asked to shed illusions, you may feel discouraged, or you may experience a heightened sense of awareness. You are more easily influenced by your immediate environment at this time so think positive thoughts, stay organized and compromise when necessary.
This could be the final semester of school for you and this eclipse will find you heading off in a new career soon. This could be an important time to contact potential employers or begin working an internship. There is a chance that something going on in your life prevents you from continuing your education at this time and you’ll feel it necessary to leave. I hope not Sagittarius, but I know if this is you that you will find a way to go back in due time.
Publishing your works may be the focal point of this eclipse. After much hard work you may get your book, online business, trademark, artistic creation, or lucky break! Your name could make headlines for people from all over the world to see. This eclipse could let you down, perhaps because you set your hopes too high.
The 3rd house governs relatives, but is more closely related to siblings. You may receive news concerning a sibling if you have one. News could come to you from far away, or may suggest that a sibling will be traveling or relocating somewhere far from where you are now. Perhaps a sibling who has been out of the country will be coming home soon. Another possibility is that you could be the one who travels to spend time with them, for work or health related reasons. Our lives are influenced by other people; this lunar eclipse could impact their life which could change your circumstances.
This lunar eclipse could finalize a contract for you. This contract could be work related; however the eclipse is not a career eclipse. If you have been working on a contract for your employer, this contact may be ending. The sun will enter your career the week following this eclipse and there will be an emphasis on something going on at work.
Saturn is transiting your career, parents, authority figures, status now. Progress may have been slow, but Saturn works deliberately in this way so that what you earn in life is something you’ve worked for. Mercury, ruling your career, agreements, and committed relationships will conjunct Venus, another blessing in your chart. This combination will be helpful, bringing favors, material goods, or financial benefits to whatever develops. Jupiter, your ruler and the zodiac’s planet of opportunity is transiting your income and possessions sector. Lucky Jupiter is beautifully aligned to your personal planets, Sagittarius. News you receive concerning agreements, legal matters, long distance relations, or education may see a financial payoff, or you may be in a better position to build your strategy now.
Other formal or legal contracts could be touched by this eclipse. Child support, inheritances, trusts funds, taxes, loans, insurance, and credit card agreements could come up. You may receive a legal notice concerning one of these issues, or you could see an ending to a long drawn out situation. There will be a transition; hopefully this is something that you can learn to live with. There could also be the transition of a grandparent.
The 3rd house governs transportation and local travel. If you have been driving an old car or a car that stays in the shop more than it does in your driveway, you may be getting a new car in the months following this eclipse. Unfortunately, it may take some stressful circumstances happening to the old one to get you in a new ride. If you do, make sure we are not in a Mercury Retrograde when you take ownership. Mercury retrogrades in September, but you can always come back and check the dates on that page. Other travel or transportation issues can play an important role in your life in the coming months.
This eclipse could change your thinking or beliefs. If you’ve been stuck in a negative pattern of thought, this eclipse may present a new more positive frame of mind. You may feel more creative or inspired to express yourself creatively. Your intuition may be heightened and you may listen to the voice within.
August 19, Mars enters your 11th house.
Friends or your participation within a group or organization may put more demands on your time, but you stand to gain something when you participate in group efforts. This is not the time to go off and find your pot of gold alone, look to friends and associates for help if you need it. Activities which include friends or organizations should be more gratifying. This is the house of hopes and wishes; it’s time to put plans into action for more satisfying results.
There is a negative side to this transit. Hosting Mars in this house can make it difficult to work with others or you may feel that someone is trying to block your progress, which may or may not be true. Mars is headstrong energy; conversations could become heated if there are disagreements. Be aware of this negative influence and don’t let upsets cause conflicts in your relationships. The pressure will ease up as Mars leaves this sign.
Extended family, such as in-laws and step children are found in this area of your chart. Hopefully you will all come together and get some hard work out of the way as opposed to experiencing any negative affects of this transit.
Aug 22, the Sun transits your 10th house.
You will focus on your career, your mate’s career, parenting, or your position in society. You will work hard for recognition; your driving force will be to make progress now. Your successes through next month will be tied to self-satisfaction, higher self-esteem, more confidence and possible increased income.
Your career, your partner’s career, or something you are working on may be tied to agreements, communications or clerical work, advertising or the internet. Ask for help if you need it because friends and associates seem willing to help you advance your efforts. You will shine among your peers, regardless of employment status.
