As you enter the month of August the cosmos is highly charged with eclipse energy. Your horoscope has been expanded with information pertaining to this month’s eclipses and previous Leo/Aquarius eclipses to your solar chart.
You’ll also find dates when the atmosphere will be ripe for developments related to this eclipse. Happy Birthday to Leo’s born in August! This month you will have your solar return, your astrological new year! August 1 – August 22, the Sun transits your sign which spotlights personal growth, your relationships and the issues that are most important to you. The past year you were concerned with most every area of your life except your personal needs, now you will focus on self-fulfilling issues as you should.
This is a good time for you to make an impression on others and your personality will be strong due to your need to express yourself. Venus transits this sector through August 5 and Mercury hangs around until Aug 10. There may be times where you find it difficult to concentrate of one subject or your energy may seem scattered. If you can control the urge of jumping from one issue to the next, this would be an excellent transit for negotiations. If you ever needed the right moment to stand up for yourself, the time is now, Leo. Venus may have drawn people into your circle and/or your relationships may have seemed warmer and gentler as these are the characteristics you exude now. You have a couple of days left to get a new hair cut, buy a new outfit, or get a facial, the results should please you as Venus transits your sign.
Aug 1, 2008, Total Solar Eclipse 10° Leo for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to Saros Series #126. It is not visible from the United States. It starts in northern Canada, passes the North Pole, into Northern Russia and south east into China. In Britain it will be visible as a partial eclipse. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
Each Saros cycle repeats itself approximately every 18 years 9 - 11 days, however the eclipse will have moved approximately 10 degrees through the zodiac. Therefore, the last eclipse in this series which occurred July 22, 1990 at 29° Cancer has moved 10 degrees to 10° Leo this month.
If the 1990 eclipse in this series changed your life, it is not likely that the same events will occur during this eclipse. There could be a similar theme that arises due to the saros series having a similar nature. An example: You got your first job in 1990; this eclipse could find you changing directions in your career. Or, you had your first child; this eclipse may find your child starting college or getting married. The theme of career or children will stand out among other things. If you are old enough, think back to that time and what significant event happened in your life as a result of that eclipse. Some of the same issues or energy may color your present circumstances due to this eclipse which will have a lasting effect on your direction.
Additionally, we want to look at when the last eclipse occurred at 10° Leo for other clues as to how you respond to eclipse activity if you have a planet near this degree. Even if you do not have your birth time, you can still find clues in the nature of the planet being influenced. The last eclipses to occur in Leo were in 1999 and 2000. Jan 31, 1999 (lunar) and July 31, 2000 (solar) we had an eclipse within orb of this eclipse degree in Leo. Those Leo eclipses were of a different saros series and contain different energy threads than the eclipse season we are going through now. Nevertheless, previous eclipses to planets or angles in your chart may provide telling signs of what will manifest and how you handle the energy presented.
Hosting an eclipse in the fixed fire sign of Leo will touch all of the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) in some respect and these signs will feel the power of this eclipse to some extent. If you have planets or angles (house 1,4,7,10) in any of these signs between 6-13 degrees, these planets and angles should be considered sensitive points in your chart. The element of the sign describes how the eclipse will be felt, or what type of crisis could result. Taurus (physical issues or tangible items) Leo (your will, creative energy) Scorpio (emotional, vague or unclear issues) Aquarius (intellectual).
While opinions may vary as to how tight the orb should be kept, I believe any planet within 4 degrees of the eclipse will awaken to the energy. There are several charts in my research (my own included) where planets were influenced by an eclipse up to 7 degrees.
The general rules for the duration of a solar eclipse is that the energy affects your circumstances one year for every hour of the eclipse’s duration, up to 3 ½ years. Astrological research has shown that an eclipse can change a life permanently. Another rule is that eclipses last from one solar eclipse to the next solar eclipse or lunar eclipse to lunar eclipse. For forecasting purposes, the life span of this solar eclipse in Leo will last until the next solar eclipse Jan. 26, 2009, although it may be activated by future transits for several more years.
While eclipse energy is often felt within a month on either side of the eclipse, there are hot spots that may trigger events related to the eclipse. Those hot spot dates are when the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 1, 2008, although you may hear something within a few days on either side of this date. Then when the sun opposes the eclipse Jan 28/29, 2009 (just 3 days after our next solar eclipse).
Each eclipse has a ruler, the planet ruling the sign where the eclipse falls. Should there be another planet within 3 degrees of the luminaries (sun or moon) that planet becomes the ruler of the eclipse. Mercury will conjunct this solar eclipse and its influence will likely be expressed through paperwork, documents, agreements, contracts, or some form of news.
All eclipses, whether solar or lunar have the potential to change your circumstances. They are expressed through a crisis of some sort. Often times a new beginning involves letting go of something from the past, whether it be a person, a relationship, an object, or behavior. If this eclipse is conjunct or in opposition to a planet in your natal chart you should expect those planets to become sensitized to the energy. The houses that the planet rules in your chart will be influenced as well and issues that involve those houses will come up for review. This eclipse will have a power rating of a triple new moon and the message that it carries will have a positive outcome in your life even if you don’t see this during the transitional phase.
This is a new moon which points to fresh starts, new opportunities, and exciting new possibilities. The universe pours its energy into the house of this Solar Eclipse and will show itself in your outward circumstances. In other words, the eclipse will change something in your life that will be apparent for all to see.
The Universe has a way of moving us forward in our lives to a point where we become a better version of ourselves. The process can be easy or difficult; it really depends on how you handle what develops. Trust that whatever comes up is important for you as you are evolving into the person you were destined to become.
Leo, this solar eclipse will fall in your sign.
If your birthday falls July 28 -August 4, you will feel this eclipse more than other Leos, although all Leos may sense the shifts in their lives. This eclipse will set you off in a new direction or you may make great strides in your personal life. You could change the way you look in the months ahead, so radically different than you look now that your friends may not recognize you when they bump into you in the future. Never say never when an eclipse conjuncts your sun, because this eclipse could send you off on a completely different path from where you are now!
Mercury will conjunct the luminaries (sun and moon) which makes Mercury ruler of this eclipse. Issues surrounding this eclipse may concern your thinking, how you communicate and express yourself, your creative urges, contracts and negotiations, how you assimilate information, intuitive insight, your personal identity or independence and your life’s purpose. Something in your life needs an upgrade and the Universe is going to help you get there.
Since Mercury conjuncts the eclipse we must consider the areas of your chart that Mercury may be communicating for you. Mercury governs your 2nd house of income and possessions so your finances may also be due for an increase. Mercury also rules over your affiliation with groups, volunteer services, your friendships, socializing, in-laws, step children, adopted children, your goals and aspirations. Any one or more of these areas could alter your outlook which would be the beginning of your personal transformation.
Leo’s are born leaders. This eclipse may put you in an authority position so your name becomes widely known among your peers. If Leo governs the 10th house in your natal chart, the probability is much greater.
This eclipse could bring a beautiful romantic relationship, or you may be asked to commit to your current relationship. If this eclipse receives hard aspects from heavy planets in your chart, you may decide to give up an existing relationship which would allow new relationships into your life. Hosting a solar eclipse in your sign may bring new developments and exciting new potential for healing relationship matters. It could be the force that propels you forward in an existing relationship, business or personal.
August 5, Venus enters your 2nd house.
Venus enjoys this place in your horoscope as she rules the sign of Taurus and the natural 2nd house in the zodiac. Venus can present you with opportunities to earn more money or you may find that financial opportunities come easily now. The down side is that you could spend it on luxury items or entertainment just as fast as you get it. Financial agreements or contracts favor you during this time as Venus helps you to negotiate on your terms. This is a good time for investments as the returns should be better than usual.
August 10, Mercury enters your 2nd house.
There will be talks about your earnings, how much you need, and what you spend. This can be an important time for financial discussions. This house governs your values as well and possessions. You will probably put more thought into your spending habits, or you may be planning to make an important purchase. The key here is thinking about what you want and planning for it.
August 16, 2008 Partial Lunar Eclipse 25° Aquarius for all signs.
This eclipse belongs to saros series 138. Visible over most of Asia, Australasia, Europe, Africa, and South America. Although only a partial eclipse, this eclipse should be quite spectacular. (Source: NASA eclipse page)
The last eclipse in this saros series occurred Aug. 6, 1990 at 14 Aquarius. This eclipse has moved 10 degrees further along the zodiacal longitude, therefore if the last eclipse in this series was felt in your life, this eclipse would be much different unless you have natal planets conjunct or opposite the sun in Leo or the full moon in Aquarius. Natal planets or angles within 4 degrees of 24 degrees of the fixed signs, Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius and Leo may also become sensitive to the lunar eclipse energy.
Let’s look at when we had our last eclipse at or near 24 Aquarius in order to help judge how your chart responds to this series of eclipses. Feb 16, 1999 a solar eclipse in Aquarius within orb of our current eclipse. Something that began then may end now. Looking back at previous eclipses to your chart is merely a tool to help judge corresponding eclipse activity to your chart. The energy that each individual saros series contains is presented in past and future eclipses of the same series. The saros cycle and the energy it contains carry more weight.
Do not be misled by anyone who suggests a partial eclipse to have less impact than a total eclipse. They have obviously never experienced one to planets or angles in their chart. The last partial eclipse in this series changed my life, my future, my family, my home, my status, my spiritual awareness and led me to my study of astrology. It was mentioned on my Your Astrologer page. The last year has proven to me that I have come full circle in 18 years with many similar themes and underlying cosmic currents. You may sense similarities in your life as well.
I’ve mentioned that solar eclipses influence your outward circumstances, areas that are obvious. Lunar eclipses tend to influence relationship matters and when they touch an important planet or angle in your chart, they too may change your circumstances which would be obvious to others. Single or attached; your relationship with something or someone could change soon. Just as our monthly full moon touches us inwardly and emotionally and points to the culmination of a particular relationship or event, a lunar eclipse does the same although it is much more powerful.
The rules for the duration of this lunar eclipse are that the life span is equal to one month for every hour of the eclipse, lasting up to 6 months. This Lunar eclipse at 24 Aquarius will last 3 hrs 9 min which suggests that you will know how this eclipse will unfold by the time the sun squares the eclipse degree Nov 15/16, 2008 although the energy is active a few days before and after these dates. Six months takes us to the next lunar eclipse Feb 9, 2009.
Pay attention to information that comes in during all eclipses because once a planet triggers and sets into motion energies related to the eclipse you may feel caught off guard. Eclipses influence our sense of timing and may cause us to feel that we are not ready, or there isn’t enough time to assimilate all that is going on. Try not to make any fast moves or decisions during an eclipse because the atmosphere is too volatile and there probably isn’t much you can do to change the situation at hand. It will prove to be more disruptive if you try and cling to any changes that are forthcoming. You may feel this eclipse within a month to the day on either side of the eclipse, or it may take until the next lunar eclipse in February to fully take shape. If you have planets directly influenced by this eclipse, it is unlikely that you will have to wait to hear something concerning the planet influenced and the houses that it governs in your chart.
Leo, this lunar eclipse falls in your 7th house.
If your birthday falls August 12 – August 20, you will feel this eclipse more than others in your sign. The planetary ruler of this eclipse is Neptune as it conjuncts this lunar eclipse and opposes the sun in your sign. You may be asked to shed illusions, move away from the past, or let go of a negative situation.
This eclipse in Leo falls on your relationship axis. This is also the house of open enemies; someone that you know opposes your ideas or causes conflicts in your life. This eclipse may focus on a committed serious relationship or your marriage.
Single Leos could marry within a few months of this eclipse, closing a chapter on your life and bringing partnership matters to the table. Even a transition such as marriage can be a difficult adjustment no matter how much you love someone.
Leos that have been involved in a difficult relationship could see a means to an end develop due to this lunar eclipse. If you want out of a challenging relationship, the lunar eclipse will show you the way. Even if you don’t realize now how a stressful relationship can keep you from finding true happiness, this eclipse will point out what is missing for you. Once you are past the transition, your life will open up to possibilities that you might not have imagined.
If you are happy in your relationship, there is no reason to fear that your partner will leave you. However, a circumstance could arise that causes some sort of separation between you. Your partner may have to travel more in the months ahead, or they may have more responsibilities on them. Your partner may have to work longer hours and when they arrive home in the evening there may be little time for the two of you. I had something similar situation happen last year when my husband changed jobs. He left in September, I stayed behind for the remainder of the school semester, and then we relocated our family in January. You could also be the one that travels or has more responsibilities. If this is you, you will adjust to the new way of doing things and you’ll also have the opportunity to strengthen your relationship in the process.
When an eclipse falls on 2 important angles in your chart (as they will now through August 2009) we often feel the eclipse at all four angles if our charts. What you’ll discover is that over a period of time shifts will occur in each sector governed by the angles in your chart. These angles are highly sensitive points and are more receptive to planetary influences. The areas concern your personal life, your home and family, your serious relationships and your career or position in society.
The result of this eclipse may concern a business venture or a legal issue where an attorney is needed for some.
August 19, Mars enters your 3rd house.
Since July 1st you may have had the opportunity to earn more money. This could have been the result of needing to work overtime, or you may have found a way to supplement your income. Expenses may have risen, possibly due to transportation, travel, or electronics glitches. Then there is always impulsive spending, but whatever the reason you’ve blown through some cash, you’ll put more energy and drive into contracts and communication matters now.
As Mars transits your communications sector, your mind will be more active, sometimes making it difficult to concentrate on one thing. You will place a great deal of emphasis on the completion of tasks and handling small details. Running errands, spending more time on the phone, and visiting relatives may also play a part in this transit for you. This is an excellent time for studying.
It may be easier for you to speak up for yourself now. In fact, Mars is known for its aggressive energy so do be careful of how you speak to others as conflicts could arise. You must also be careful that you don’t intimidate others or push people away because you express yourself with such power and authority. Being heard and expressing your ideas will be important you.
Aug 22, the Sun transits your 2nd house.
Financial planning, budgets and expenses are highlighted now. This is an important transit for defining what you value in your life. Money isn’t always the driving force in this sector of your chart. You’ll want to consider what you are worth. Are you treated fairly? Do you get the respect you deserve from others? What’s important for your long-term security needs? These are some other important areas that may be highlighted over the next month.
